Very hardy, durable tree that shows strong resistance to insects and disease. Exfoliating bark with patchy spots underneath in a range of colors – often called lacebark elm for this trait – very ornamental. Tolerates a wide range of soils, and air-pollution. Excellent urban tree. Good street, park and campus tree. Provides dense shade. Should be used more often.
